COVID-19 and Cancer Taskforce Global Modelling Consortium (CCGMC):
The COVID-19 and Cancer Global Modelling Consortium (CCGMC) brings together the global modelling community to support decision-making in cancer control both during and after the crisis. The key partners are the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), The International Cancer Screening Network (ICSN), the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) and Cancer Council NSW, Sydney Australia (which is the coordinating centre for the CCGMC). We have established key links to groups from WHO and the National Cancer Institute USA’s CISNET program who have related work programs.
Our aim is to help to configure modelling platforms and teams that can provide more informed advice to our governments, in both high income countries and in in low- and middle-income countries as they rise to this overwhelming health systems challenge. Our focus on the longer-term, as well as the shorter-term, recognises that recovery strategies will be required as countries move beyond the acute phase of the crisis.
We are connecting teams who are already working on the infectious disease dynamics in various countries, with a collaborative effort to establish global platforms for cancer control. We are utilising the best available cancer registry and Globocan data, synthesising this information with emergent evidence on treatment uptake and evidence on the effectiveness of new therapies for cancer patients impacted by COVID-19.
We have now received over 200 registrations through the online EOI, with representation across 38 countries, covering a wide range of specialities and with interest across the three different components of work - impact on cancer treatment, screening and cancer prevention (as described in the Concept Note).
The Steering Committee members are:
Professor Karen Canfell
Dr Freddie Bray
Dr Julie Torode
And the co-chairs of the three working groups (names to be added)
The Working Group Structure across these three components of work are illustrated below.
